IELTS Writing task 1

The diagram below shows how one type of coal is used to produce electricity.

The process of generating electricity from coal involves five main stages: Coal extraction, change in form, cooling, filtration, and transmission.

Coal Extraction and Change in Form: – Raw coal is mined and then crushed into finer particles. – The crushed coal is transported to a gasifier, where it is converted into gaseous form through heating.

Cooling, Filtration, and Electricity Generation: – The resulting gas undergoes a condensing phase in another factory to eliminate excess heat. – The cooled substance is cleaned to remove impurities. – The cleaned substance is passed to a gas power plant for electricity generation. – The gas power plant also removes any residual heat as a by-product. – The generated electricity is transmitted through power lines to residential and industrial areas for use.

Bước 2: Hoàn thành bài luận

The diagram illustrates the process through which electricity is generated by means of coal.

Overall, this is a largely mechanical process and comprises five main stages: The extraction of coal, which then undergoes a change in form, followed by cooling and filtration stages, allowing for the production and transmission of electricity at the end of the process. 

At the beginning of the process, the raw material, which is coal, is exploited at a mining point. Subsequently, the extracted coal is crushed into finer species, which are subsequently transported by trucks to a gasifier, where these ground bits of coal are converted into gaseous form by being heated at a high enough temperature. The resulting gas is then transferred to another factory and undergoes the condensing phase, during which the gas is cooled and any excess heat is also eliminated. 

Once a desired temperature has been reached, the process continues with cleaning the cooled substance to get rid of any impurities, and the following step involves passing it onto a gas power plant, which generates electricity and again facilitates the removal/ discharge of any residual heat as a by-product during this electricity-generating process. The process finishes with this final product being transmitted through power lines to residential and industrial areas, where electricity powers homes, businesses and industries.

Supporting Ideas: – Social media platforms often break major news stories faster than traditional media. – Users have access to a wide range of domestic and international news. – Concerns about sensationalism and misinformation can be addressed through media literacy initiatives and cross-referencing sources.

Bước 3: Hoàn thành bài luận

Social networking platforms are used by a number of people to keep in contact with other people as well as staying abreast of the latest affairs. In my opinion, there appear to be limited drawbacks to this technological advance, and the benefits far overshadow these negative aspects.

With regard to the first argument of allowing more chances for social interaction, opponents of this viewpoint might argue that the proliferation of online sites has given rise to social withdrawal. They contend that social media users nowadays are becoming increasingly addicted to chatting with online people and mainly form virtual relationships, which are a poor substitute for real-world connections. Although this can be a legitimate concern, I do not believe that this is a likely scenario, given the fact that thanks to these platforms, Internet users, regardless of ages, have a tendency to meet their friends far more frequently, as conversations online often lead to more in-person meetings. Moreover, these social networking sites, with the integration of features such as texting and video calling, have broken down communication barriers, allowing individuals living far away from their hometown to easily stay in touch with their distant family members or relatives.  

Concerning the matter of staying informed about news events, there is no doubt that social media tends to get the scoop on major stories, thereby meeting the quest for timely and most recent information among the masses. By contrast, readers of newspapers and viewers of television more often than not get access to outdated information, as information on these mainstream media outlets have to go through an inherent process of rigorous censorship before being reported to citizens. In addition, online news consumers can obtain news occurring on both domestic and international levels, which, in turn, allows people to enrich their reading experiences, as they are not confined to solely local coverage. Of course, one might argue that the exposure to sensational headlines or any inaccurate and biased information on the Internet is becoming a huge concern, but with media literacy initiatives, the rising awareness of online literacy and the ability to cross-reference sources, this no longer poses any problems to those consuming news online. 

In conclusion, while there are certain disadvantages associated with the use of social media, these issues can generally be overcome, and there are definite rewards to using this platform for the purpose of strengthening connection with other people and keeping up-to-date with the latest events.
