1. Về IELTS Speaking part 2
Phần thi IELTS Speaking Part 2 là phần thi thứ 2 trong bài thi IELTS Speaking, bạn sẽ không trao đổi qua lại với giám khảo mà sẽ tự trình bày bài nói của mình.
Bạn sẽ được phát trong một tấm thẻ hoặc mảnh giấy gọi là “cue card”, bên trong có chủ đề và một số gợi ý về ý tưởng dành cho bạn. Phần thi này sẽ kéo dài khoảng 3 – 4 phút, do đó còn được gọi là “The Long Turn”.
Thời gian làm bài: 1 phút chuẩn bị (giấy và bút chì được cung cấp), 2 phút trình bày.
Lưu ý: Bạn nên hoàn thành bài nói khoảng 5 – 10 giây trước khi 2 phút kết thúc, giám khảo sẽ hỏi bạn khoảng 1 – 2 câu hỏi nếu như bạn kết thúc quá sớm hoặc bị lố giờ.

2. Về nhóm chủ đề IELTS Speaking part 2 Describe a place
Nhóm chủ đề IELTS Speaking part 2 Describe a place là dạng chủ đề phổ biến, hay gặp nhất trong phần IELTS Speaking part 2. Dạng đề này sẽ yêu cầu bạn:
- Mô tả một địa điểm – phần chính
- Chi tiết về địa điểm đó – phần phụ
Câu trả lời của bạn nên bao gồm cả thông tin phần chính và phần phụ.
Ví dụ, ta có “cue card” sau:
| Describe a place you would like to visit. You should say: Where it is What the main attractions are How you know this place and explain why you want to visit this place. |
Bạn sẽ thấy, phần chính của đề bài chính là mô tả một địa điểm – Describe a place và phần phụ là you would like to visit – mà bạn muốn đến thăm. Ý tưởng hỗ trợ cho bạn sẽ nằm ở “You should say”.

3. Cách trả lời IELTS Speaking part 2 Describe a place
Để có thể dễ dàng hình dung được cách trả lời IELTS Speaking part 2 Describe a place, ta sẽ có cấu trúc câu trả lời như sau:
3.1. Introduction – Giới thiệu địa điểm
Có nhiều cấu trúc “mở bài” cho phần IELTS Speaking part 2, nhưng dưới đây sẽ là cấu trúc dễ nhớ nhất, dễ đi vào bài nhất và áp dụng được cho tất cả các dạng đề:
Today I am going to talk about/ I would like to tell you about + địa điểm + thông tin phụ (nếu có)
Ngoài ra tùy theo đề bài mà bạn còn có thể đưa thêm thông tin, ví dụ như từ nơi bạn sống đến đó bao xa, bạn sẽ phải đi bằng gì để đến đó, đi trong bao lâu, etc.
E.g.: Today I am going to talk about/ I would like to tell you about Hoi An – an ancient town in Quang Nam that attracts hordes of tourists every year.
3.2. Detailed information – Thông tin chi tiết về địa điểm
Ở phần này, bạn sẽ dựa theo những gợi ý mà “cue card” cung cấp (các chấm, gạch đầu dòng) để đưa ra thông tin chi tiết về địa điểm. Ví dụ như:
| Describe a place you would like to visit. You should say: Where it is What the main attractions are How you know this place and explain why you want to visit this place. |
Ta sẽ trả lời theo các gợi ý sau:
- Nơi đó ở đâu – where it is
- Điểm thu hút chính của nơi đó, ở đó có gì thú vị – what the main attractions are
- Làm sao bạn biết nơi này – how you know this place
3.3. Thoughts – Cảm nghĩ của bạn về địa điểm đó
Phần 3 chính là gợi ý cuối cùng – lúc này bạn sẽ đưa ra cảm nghĩ về địa điểm mà mình đã trình bày, mà trong ví dụ ở trên chính là “and explain why you want to visit this place” – giải thích vì sao bạn muốn đến thăm nơi này.
Bạn lưu ý rằng khi áp dụng những cấu trúc trên, ta sẽ điều chỉnh sao cho phù hợp với nội dung đề bài nhé!
4. Từ vựng và cấu trúc chủ đề Describe a place
- A dining establishment/ restaurant (nhà hàng) – a country (đất nước)
- A city (thành phố)
- Temple, pagoda (chùa)
- Church, cathedral (nhà thờ) – shopping mall (trung tâm mua sắm)
- Supermarket (siêu thị)
- Convenience store (cửa hàng tiện lợi)
- Historical site (khu di tích lịch sử)
- Museum (bảo tàng)
- Tourist attraction (điểm thu hút khách du lịch)
- A town (thị trấn)
- A coffee shop (quán cà phê)
- A modern building (toà nhà hiện đại)
- A museum (bảo tàng)
- Amusement park (công viên giải trí)
- Cinema/ movie theater (rạp chiếu phim)
- Sports center/ gym (trung tâm thể thao/ gym) – apartment complex (khu chung cư)
- Detached house (nhà riêng, biệt lập)
- Skyscraper (toà nhà chọc trời)
Cấu trúc:
- (The place) is famous/ renowned/ noted for… Nơi này nổi tiếng vì…
- (The place) is located/ situated in… Nơi này nằm ở…
- The site is popular with many local people. Nơi này nổi tiếng với nhiều người địa phương.
- I come here whenever I need to blow off some steam. Tôi đến đây mỗi khi cần thư giãn, xả stress.
- What impresses/ delights me about … is … Điều gây ấn tượng với tôi/ làm tôi vui nhất về … là …
- (The place) reminds me of… Nơi này làm tôi nhớ đến…
- I value (the place) because … Tôi trân trọng nơi này vì…

Traveling is always a good way to broaden knowledge. Today I am going to talk about Times Square in New York – a place that I would like to pay a visit to one day.
Times Square is a well-known business intersection, tourist destination, hub of entertainment, and neighbourhood in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. This intersection is shaped like a bowtie, as is the nearby Duffy Square.
This place is a major centre for the global entertainment industry and one of the busiest pedestrian areas in the world. Additionally, the New Year’s Eve ball drop takes place in Times Square every year. It is well-known worldwide and attracts lots of tourists, thus it has been featured countless times in literature, films, video games, music videos, and television. I learned about Times Square from a variety of books and movies. It amazed me that visiting this location had developed into a dream of mine.
A large number of visitors are drawn to it because of the magnificent view and the grand celebration of the new year. I do really hope that one day, I could join in the street with the advertisements and brightly lit billboards, which create a mesmerizing atmosphere for living and enjoying the place.

I’d like to talk about a place where I enjoy working or studying, and that place is a local library in my hometown. It’s a peaceful and welcoming environment that offers me the perfect atmosphere for concentration and productivity.

One of the main reasons I love working or studying there is the sheer silence that envelops the library. As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted by a hushed atmosphere that encourages focus. The librarians are very strict about maintaining quiet, which I appreciate because it allows me to concentrate fully on my tasks. There are designated study areas on both floors, some of which have individual cubicles with desks and reading lamps, creating an ideal spot for intensive study sessions.
The library also boasts an impressive collection of books, journals, and reference materials across various subjects. This is particularly helpful for my studies as it provides easy access to valuable resources. They also have a computer section with internet access, which is useful for research and online assignments. Furthermore, the library offers a peaceful reading room where I can immerse myself in a good book, away from distractions.
The staff at the library is incredibly friendly and helpful. They are always ready to assist with any inquiries or guide you to the right section. Additionally, the library hosts various workshops, seminars, and events, which makes it a vibrant place for learning and personal growth.
In conclusion, the local library in my hometown is the place I love to work and study. Its peaceful atmosphere, extensive collection of resources, and helpful staff make it an ideal environment for academic pursuits. Whether I need to prepare for exams, conduct research, or simply find a quiet corner to work, this library never fails to provide the perfect setting for my needs.
