IELTS Writing Task 1

Task 1: The chart below shows the proportion of businesses making e-commerce purchases by industry in Canada between 2015 and 2019. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart delineates the percentage of online purchases made by businesses in different sectors in Canada during five consecutive years, from 2015 to 2019.

The first impression from the chart is that the number of purchases generally increased, despite periodic fluctuations. It is also clear that Information and Communications businesses made the highest number of e-commerce purchases during the given time.

Construction and Wholesale were the two industries that experienced consistent increases. The proportion of purchases in Construction started at just over 20% in 2015 before soaring to roughly 55% four years later. The figure of Wholesale experienced the same pattern when it climbed from 40% to around 61%.

In 2015, the Retail sector and Information and Communication sector recorded figures of 30% and 60%, respectively. The proportion of Retail rose rapidly to approximately 58% in 2018, followed by a marginal dip of around 1% in 2019. Similarly, the figure for the latter increased gradually to nearly 75% in 2018 before undergoing a decline to 70% in the last year. Meanwhile, the percentage of purchases in the Manufacturing industry surged from around 30% to nearly double that in five years, despite a drop to about 43% in 2017.

Phân tích

• Đây là dạng bài cần phân tích sự tăng giảm qua các năm của số liệu.
• Số liệu của các nhóm nhìn chung là tăng trong khoảng thời gian được cho. Có 2 nhóm tăng liên tục là Construction và Wholesale, trong khi các nhóm còn lại có những giai đoạn ngắn giảm. 

Lưu ý: Bài chỉ nên ghi số liệu ở những năm có sự thay đổi đặc biệt của từng ngành (như từ tăng thành giảm) và không nên ghi tất cả số liệu có trong bài.

IELTS Writing Task 2

Task 2: New technologies and ways of buying and selling are transforming the lives of consumers. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Sample

It is said that the emergence of new technologies and methods of trading have revolutionized consumers’ lives. I completely agree with this opinion due to the speed of making transactions and the way in which products are displayed thanks to technology.

Undoubtedly, technology has accelerated the process of purchasing products and services. In fact, with a mobile phone and Internet connection at people’s disposal, any user could make transactions on-the-go and have the products shipped to their places with just several clicks. This has made shopping much less time-consuming and enabled people to manage their time more efficiently. An example is office workers, who spend around 10 hours for work every day and barely have time to do grocery shopping. Nowadays, they could make purchases during break time at work with their smartphones, leaving more hours for taking care of their health and family.

Beside the convenience mentioned above, the way products are sold on the Internet enables consumers to make informed purchases. This is because e-commerce websites allow buyers to browse and view different products easily, and therefore, consumers could compare prices and features before making any decision. For instance, Shopee, which is currently one of the leading e-commerce applications in Vietnam, is designed with an interface that displays multiple products and comprehensive information as well as reviews from previous purchasers. Since the details are more transparent compared to information displayed in brick-and-mortar stores, customers are able to make more economical purchases.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion that new buying and selling practices have renovated retail customer experience since it allows buyers to make quicker and wiser purchases. There is no doubt that customers could enjoy even more benefits when shopping as technology advances day by day.
