1. Were colors important to you when you were a child?
Well yes, I’ve always loved colors but my favourite has always been blue. I had my mom buy me toys and clothes that were all blue. Up until now, blue is still my favourite color and it’s become a part of my identity.

2. Are there any colors that have a special meaning in your country?
Yes, of course, red is the color that represents good luck. That’s why at Tet, our holiday during the Lunar New Year, you often see the elderly and parents hand red envelopes containing “lucky” money to their children and grandchildren.

3. What colors would you choose to paint the walls of your room?
I’ve mentioned earlier that I absolutely love blue, so without a doubt, that’s my go-to color. I would also consider combining it with white since that’s my second favorite color.

IELTS Speaking Part 2: Describe a place you remember well that is full of colors

I’m going to describe a colorful place that is not an actual building, in fact, it’s not a construction at all. It’s the Cái Bè floating market in Tien Giang province. As its name suggests, the sellers and buyers of this market do not meet on land at all, rather, the merchants use wood-plank boats as both their transportation and their shop. Tourists and other customs also have to be on one of the boats to take part in this market. I had the opportunity to go to this unique market a couple of months ago.
The market session started really early in the morning. It was just past dawn and I already saw many boats floating on the water. The river water was brownish and almost coffee-like. The color it took from alluvial soils. Many boats, especially the larger ones had paintings of blue and white eyes on their hulls. This is a tradition dating back thousands of years.
While our boats were roaming around, I saw many colors from both the people and the good they were offering. Most easily recognisable were the fruits: green mangos, yellow pineapples, red dragon fruits, you name it. There were also colorful flowers and food on these boats. Most of the merchants themselves wore bà ba, one of the traditional garments of Vietnamese people. These are simple silk shirt in bright colors.
I spent the whole morning at this market and it was honestly a really impressive display of the colors of life. This is why I shall remember this for the rest of my life.

1. What colors are commonly used for the decoration of peoples’ homes?
To be honest, I haven’t paid much attention to how people decorate their houses. So, I’m gonna describe what I usually see in my friends’ places. Usually, the walls in their houses are painted with a neutral color like white or beige and my friends have decorated them with flowery or starry patterns. Some of my friends also use plants to help their homes to have more of a green feel to it.

2. Can colors have any influence on people and their mood?
Oh, definitely and I’ve read somewhere that warm colors like red and yellow can evoke strong emotions like anger and happiness, whereas cool colors like blue tend to make people feel calm, relaxed and sometimes sad. I think this is why many companies have their offices painted blue or green to help alleviate the stress that their workers face.

3. What colors are important when people buy things?
Speaking from experience, colors are excellent indicators of the condition of perishable products. I specially look for the “mouldy green” color when I buy food to make sure that it hasn’t gone spoilt.

4. Is color really important in advertisements?
Yeah, especially for smaller brands trying to break into the market. I think that for a company brand recognition is as important as the quality of the products. What’s the use of having a good product without any buyers, right? So using a color scheme that makes your products attractive and fascinating among thousands of competitors is really a must.

5. Are pictures in textbooks really important?
Definitely! Illustrations in textbooks can help students tremendously. In natural science subjects like Physics, Biology or even Maths, diagrams can elucidate abstract concepts or natural processes such as life stages of species. And in Geography, it’s impossible to visualise the borders of countries based on words alone, so maps really play an important role here. Last but not least, in language learning, pictures can help the learners acquire vocabularies for objects much faster than wordy definitions.
