1. What kind of disasters are there in Vietnam?

Flooding, particularly in Central Vietnam, is what I consider to be the most serious disaster that might occur in my nation. Droughts, on the other hand, are frequently observed in the arid regions and have a detrimental effect on the farmers’ quality of life.

2. How can disasters be warned about in your country?

There are numerous ways to alert the locals of risky situations. The administration frequently provides TV updates on current events. The local government would also put up signs instructing citizens on how to defend themselves at the same time.

The most common tool used by everyone to stay up to date on news is the television. Digital newspapers are another popular tool that provide a real-time report on the incident. However, this method is only practical for those with internet access, making it ineffective in rural locations.

IELTS Speaking part 2: Talk about a natural disaster

Đề bài

Describe a disaster that affected your country/region. You should say: What kind of disaster it was  Where it happened What the consequences were And why do you remember it

Đối với dạng đề bài này, thí sinh có thể chọn một sự kiện thiên tai ảnh hưởng đến đất nước, rộng hơn là vùng Đông Nam Á và châu Á. Mở đầu bài nói, thí sinh nên đi vào trọng tâm đó là thiên tai gì, có thể thêm lý do tại sao lại xuất hiện thiên tai đó.

Phần chính của bài nói, thí sinh cần nói sâu về thiệt hại khi thiên tai xảy ra. Có thể cân nhắc nhiều yếu tố như thiệt hại về tài sản, thiệt hại về cơ sở vật chất. Tiếp đó, thí sinh nên làm rõ đài báo đã đưa tin tức như thế nào về sự kiện đó, rồi liên hệ đến bản thân đã có những hành động gì để giúp đỡ người dân ở khu vực bị thiên tai ảnh hưởng.

Kết bài, thí sinh cần giải thích lý do tại sao bản thân lại nhớ sự kiện đó, có thể sử dụng các tính từ chỉ cảm xúc để bày tỏ cảm nghĩ của mình, thể hiện hy vọng về tương lai.

In October and November of 2020, Central Vietnam was hit by a series of floods due to the highest rate of precipitation seen in 60 years. Actually, there’s a good reason why I rate this as a catastrophe. 

I watched the news on television as it described the harm the incident had done to my people, who were devastated. That catastrophe dominated the news reports for the full month. Thousands of homes were destroyed by a long landslide caused by the intense rain. This resulted in a widespread obstruction of traffic, making it difficult for rescue crews to get to the unfortunate.

That, however, was hardly the most tragic aspect of this disaster. Although the authorities made an effort to evacuate the locals, the flooding had already claimed the lives of a great number of people, and a great number more are now still missing. 

The locals were able to somewhat stabilize their living situations after approximately one to two months, but I knew it would be difficult because the majority of them were farmers. According to the state television network, a lot of livestock was lost during the floods, which would have a significant impact on their ability to support themselves. I gave some of my money away because I wanted to make life easier for the residents in the city center. 

Anyway, I realize that my wish is somewhat idealistic, but I’m hoping that my nation’s center region won’t experience another natural calamity in the future. It sometimes crushes my heart to witness their yearly agony.

Due to global warming, the frequency of wildfires has increased recently. The occurrence that occurred in Australia between 2019 and 2020 is one of the prominent examples. The arid climate of this continent, which wiped off the local vegetation and animals, was the deciding factor.

So I think we can’t just point the finger at one side.

3. How can we limit the bad effects of disasters on our lives?

Actually, being well-prepared can greatly aid individuals in minimizing loss, both in terms of people and money. To ensure the protection of the locals, the government should develop an evacuation strategy before the disaster. At the same time, the media must continuously update the news so that people do not enter dangerous areas.
