Chúng ta có thể sử dụng cả hai thì Hiện Tại Hoàn Thành hay Hiện Tại Hoàn Thành Tiếp Diễn để diễn tả một tình huống hay hành động bắt đầu ở quá khứ và vẫn kéo dài đến hiện tại (thường đi với for hay since):

  • Since + mốc thời gian

Ex: I’ve worked at the restaurant since I moved here.

I’ve been feeling tired since I started this course.

  • For + khoảng thời gian

Ex: I’ve been working at the restaurant for three years.

I’ve felt tired for weeks.

  • All + thời gian ( all the morning, all day,..)

Ex: They have been working in the field all the morning.

I’ve been reading for the past two weeks.

  • Nhấn mạnh số lần xảy ra hành động:

I’ve read this articles three times.

I’ve been writing my essay ( we don’t know if the essay is finished or not)

What have you been doing? ( the boy’s mother is interested in the activity that made him so dirty now)

I’ve written my essay ( my essay is finished but we don’t know when )

What have you done? ( the boy’s mother is interested in the result of the action: the broken window )

I’ve known them since I was a child. (not I’ve been knowing them since I was a child)
