Describe an advertisement you like.

You should say:

  • what type of advertisement it is
  • what product or service it advertises
  • where and when you first saw it

And explain why you like it and think that this advertisement is effective.

I generally think advertisements are just a waste of time. But there was one time when I stumbled across an advertisement for a manufacturer of electric appliances that soon went viral and became a sensation in the Vietnamese market.

Starting in November 2016, the ad played on the brand’s Facebook page, YouTube channel, and television during prime time. It seemed a bit odd, to put it mildly. The one-minute commercial featured a group of people with yellow lips and blue body-tight outfits, dancing inside the TV, washing machine, and refrigerator frames while singing along the most catchy tunes.

The words were straightforward enough for listeners to recall after just one listen, and that was their strongest suit. Instead of emphasizing the quality of the things they sell, the purpose was to educate consumers about Dien May Xanh, an ideal place to purchase household electronics.

Young Internet users suddenly became interested in the campaign, and it was republished to Facebook community pages and started to gain more attraction among various age groups. The advertising went viral and became a sensation on the Internet and in real life because of the interest and hype from Netizens. It is easy to catch sight of elementary school students singing along to these catchy melodies while playing with their friends.

2.1. Why do some people hate advertisements?

In my view, there are two explanations for why people hold negative attitudes towards advertisements. People just have had enough of seeing advertisements these days since there are too many of them. No matter how patient a person is, they can only stand so many commercial interruptions during their preferred YouTube videos or television show.

Others, however, despise the fact that commercials have always exaggerated the actual worth of the products they are selling, misleading consumers’ buying decisions.

  • Exaggerate (v): phóng đại

2.2. Do people usually buy stuff after watching advertisements?

I believe it varies depending on the population we’re referring to. Young consumers, particularly those my age, have a tendency to place more trust in advertisements. They are also quite keen to try new things, thus there is a good potential that they will buy something out of an advertisement.

The opposite is true to the elderly, however. They frequently stick with brands and items that they are already familiar with. Plus, advertisements of any kind will not excite seniors because they are less receptive to colors and noises.

2.3. Is music useful in advertising?

Needless to say, I think the success of any advertisement is greatly influenced by the music used. According to research, music assists us in creating new memories as well as retrieving old ones. This indicates that a commercial with appealing background music will have a greater impact on how likely consumers are going to recall the brand when they want to buy a certain product. Emotionally, music in commercials affects viewers’ attitudes, making them less skeptical of the brand.

  • Skeptical (adj): ngờ vực
