3.1. Sample

Well, every single country has its own sets of laws and orders that are made with the intention of ensuring public safety and a wealthy society. However, I’m particularly appreciative of the law on marriage and family in Vietnam, especially the articles 95-100 ruled about surrogacy.

I believe this law was enacted over 5 years ago in order to encourage infertile parents to have a chance to be parents.

I actually came to know about this law since it has not been taken effect yet. When I was still a law student, I was struggling to find a topic for scientific research. Fortunately, I knew that surrogacy was allowed if it’s for humanitarian purpose. You know as person who studied law, I read a host of articles, bills of Western law and surrogating has been regulated since 1990s so I found this law to be so timely and practical.

It is absolutely meaningful and necessary to enforce the law as it would help the authorities to have some control over the demand for surrogacy today and to protect the rights of mothers and children. It means that based on clear legal frame, we can avoid violations such as refusing to return the child or refusing to accept the child.

Beforehand, I felt sorry for some Vietnamese infertile parents because they can only do artificial insemination which actually costs a fortune. And actually, there have been only few cases of artificial insemination in the last decade. I personally feel this law is not only humane but also progressively legislative. This is likely to pave the way for other promptly regulations, so I truly hope that Vietnam law would be more improved in the future.

3.2. Vocabulary

  • Surrogacy: mang thai hộ
  • Not been taken effect yet: chưa có hiệu lực
  • Humanitarian purpose: mục đích nhân đạo
  • Legal frame: khung pháp lý
  • Violations: sự vi phạm
  • Artificial insemination: thụ tinh nhân tạo
  • Costs a fortune: tiêu tốn nhiều tiền
  • Humane (a): tính nhân văn
  • Progressively legislative: tiên tiến về tính lập pháp
  • Pave the way for (v): trải đường cho/ chuẩn bị cho

4.2. Bài mẫu

4.2.1. Do people like becoming a police officer in your country?

Well I am not sure. I mean this profession could be a bit less preferable due to its salary, compared to other jobs like lawyer or banker or tech-guy. But personally being a police officer is pretty cool isn’t it? I have always had a great impression of the Police Department. In fact, I have 2 friends serving for the local police department recently . It could be hard work since you have to do tons of patrols everyday but eventually it is all about citizen safety right?

  • Preferable: được ưa thích
  • The Police Department: Sở cảnh sát
  • Patrol: tuần tra

4.2.2. What international laws should be applied all over the world?

Well this is a great question. Any country has its own regulations and customs that may cause some misunderstanding to foreigners. However, speaking of international laws, Rights of the Child should be applied globally. In case you don’t know, this set of regulations is implemented by the UN and it is all about taking care of a child and how to provide both physical and mental growth properly and comprehensively when taking care of them.

  • Customs: phong tục
  • Rights of the Child: Quyền trẻ em
  • The UN: Liên Hiệp Quốc
  • Comprehensively: một cách toàn diện

4.2.3. Do most people in your country abide by the laws?

Yes obviously. Laws help shape the world and make people become a united community. So abiding by the laws is a must in every country I believe. Plus, laws only work well if each individual obey it completely.

4.2.4. Do you think should laws be broken sometime? If so, under what circumstances?

Laws are made to be obeyed, not to be broken. So to me I think people should try to find a way to completely obey laws, rather than try to find a loophole and break it. Imagine a society where laws are enacted just for breaking them. We will lose our humanity sooner or later. Breaking laws should not be justified under any circumstances.

  • Loophole: kẽ hở
  • Justify: bào chữa, biện minh

4.2.5. Are there laws about environmental protection in Vietnam?

Yes of course, not only in Vietnam I believe. Tons of regulations and guidelines to protect the environment and nature have been issued. But as you can see, it seemed pretty impractical and inappropriate. I think appeasement should not be applied for those who don’t respect and protect the environment.

  • Regulation: quy định
  • Guideline: hướng dẫn
  • Issue: ban hành
  • Appeasement: sự nhượng bộ

4.2.6. What should parents do to educate children about laws?

Adults are the perfect example for their kids to mimic. So personally the best way to educate children is to obey the laws and carefully explain to kids why we should do that. If, as an adult, we show that we disrespect and break laws regularly, kids will take that as a reference and they will try to do the same thing.

  • Mimic: bắt chước
  • Obey: tuân theo

4.2.7. Do people who break laws in your country receive the correct punishment?

Well to me it is a debatable topic. It depends on how people define the crime that was committed. I can say the law system in Vietnam is now pretty comprehensive. Strictness has been shown in the court and we have lawyers with great sense of professional ethics. I myself believe in the way that laws are enacted and practiced in Vietnam.

  • Debatable: gây tranh cãi
  • Strictness: sự nghiêm minh
  • Practice laws: thi hành pháp luật

4.2.8. Are there any alternatives to put someone in jail?

It strongly depends on what kinds of crimes that person commits and how severe the crime is. Some petty crimes are not necessary to send someone to jail. Other solutions could be considered as punishment are monetary fine, community labor or suspended sentence

  •  Commit a crime: phạm tội
  • Petty crimes: các lỗi vặt vãnh
  • Monetary fine: chế tài
  • Community labor: lao động công ích
  • Suspended sentence: án treo

4.2.9. How technology can help tackle crime?

Digital database of fingerprints would be the life-saver for Police officers and Detectives when they solve criminal cases. I know there are so many countries that have implemented CCTVs on each corner of the street. And by doing that, observing crime or any suspicious behavior of citizens is way easier. Plus, some social media platforms use AI technology to automatically detect cybercrime

  • Fingerprint: dấu vân tay
  • Implement: triển khai
  • Cybercrime: tội phạm trên mạng

4.2.10. Why do some people prefer to be a lawyer?

Well, the first thing that pops up in my mind is being wealthy. I mean lawyer is one of the top highly-paid jobs, isn’t it? Being a lawyer can offer you a competitive salary and what’s more, practicing laws provide you tons of practical knowledge to protect yourself legally

  • Wealthy: dư dả, giàu có
  • highly-paid : được trả lương cao
