Khi bạn đã có thể sử dụng các cấu trúc so sánh thành thạo, thì yêu cầu cao hơn bạn cần đặt ra là mở rộng thành phần câu hoặc sử dụng các cấu trúc thu hút hơn. Trong đó, cấu trúc the more the more là cách hiệu quả nhất giúp câu nói của bạn có tính so sánh hấp dẫn, thuyết phục hơn so với bình thường.

1. Cấu trúc The more là gì?
Cấu trúc the more là một dạng so sánh kép (Double Comparative), được dùng để thể hiện sự thay đổi về tính chất của một chủ thể A sẽ dẫn đến sự thay đổi song song của một tính chất khác thuộc chủ thể A hoặc một chủ thể B khác.
E.g:
- The more kind they are, the more loved they are.
- The more you give, the more you receive.
- The more beautiful the shirt is, the more expensive you have to pay for it.
2. Cấu trúc The more the more trong tiếng Anh
Trong tiếng Anh, chúng ta phân ra 3 loại cấu trúc the more như sau:
2.1. The more the more với Danh từ
Cấu trúc:
| The more + noun + S1 + V1, the more + noun + S2 + V2: càng …. càng … |
E.g:
- The more books you read, the more knowledge you know.
- The more knowledge you know, the more choices you have.
- The more skills she has, the more jobs she can apply for.
2.2. The more the more với Động từ
Cấu trúc:
| The more + S1 + V1, the more + S2 + V2: càng … càng … |
E.g:
- The more he works, the more he earns.
- The more you read, the more you know.
- The more they go, the more they know.
2.3. The more the more với Tính từ
2.3.1. Với tính từ dài
Cấu trúc:
| The more + adj + S1 + V1, the more + adj + S2 + V2: càng …. càng … |
Trong cấu trúc này, the more kết hợp với tính từ dài để tạo thành dạng so sánh kép.
E.g:
- The more careful she is, the more perfect her project is.
- The more convenient the situation is, the more successful you are.
- The more difficult the situation is, the more resilient Tom is.
2.3.2. Với tính từ ngắn
Cấu trúc tính từ ngắn:
| The + adj-er + S1 + V1, the + adj-er + S2 + V2 |
E.g:
- The harder we work, the better our results are.
- The faster we walk, the sooner we arrive.

3. The more the more với câu so sánh
Ngoài những cấu trúc the more nguyên bản, trong ngữ pháp tiếng Anh còn có một số cách tạo thành cấu trúc này với câu so sánh như sau, bạn hãy cùng tham khảo nhé!
Cấu trúc 1:
| The less + S1 + V1, the more + S2 + V2: càng … ít thì càng … nhiều |
E.g:
- The less you revise your lessons, the more you forget.
- The less she wastes time, the more she can do.
Cấu trúc 2:
| The more + S1 + V1, the + adj-er + S2 + V2: càng … càng … |

- The more Minh studies, the easier she feels when having tests.
- The more you practice, the better the result is.
Cấu trúc 3:
| The adj-er + S1 + V1 + the more + adj + S2 + V2: càng … càng … |
E.g:
- The shorter this game is, the more difficult it is.
- The harder he works, the more successful his project is.

4.1. Tính từ 1 âm tiết + các tính từ 2 âm tiết và kết thúc bằng “y” “e” “le” “ow”

4.3. Các tính từ bất quy tắc

5. Cấu trúc càng ngày càng
Cấu trúc này cũng có thể hiểu là so sánh lặp và được sử dụng trong trường hợp mô tả, diễn đạt điều gì đó hoặc cái gì đó sẽ thay đổi một cách liên tục.
5.1. Tính từ 1 âm tiết + các tính từ 2 âm tiết và kết thúc bằng “y” “e” “le” “ow”
Công thức:
(Adjective + ‘er’) and (Adjective + ‘er’)
Ví dụ:
- The city has grown fast in recent years. It’s got bigger and bigger.
- Your English is improving. It’s getting better and better.
5.2. Tính từ 2 âm tiết trở lên
Công thức:
More and more + Adjective
Ví dụ: As I listened to his story, I became more and more convinced that he was lying.
Lưu ý: MORE AND MORE + Noun (plural)
Ví dụ: More and more tourists are visiting this part of the country.
6. Cấu trúc càng…càng…
Cấu trúc này sử dụng khi cả hai sự vật/ sự việc cùng thay đổi hoặc sự thay đổi của vật/ việc này ảnh hưởng đến vật/ việc kia.
6.1. Dạng ngắn gọn
Công thức:
The + the comparative (1) + the + the comparative (2)
Ví dụ:
- A: What time shall we leave?
- B: The sooner the better (= as soon as possible)
- A: What sort of bag do you want?
- B: Yes, the bigger the better. (=as big as possible)

6.2. Dạng đầy đủ
Công thức:
The + comparative(1) + clause (S1 + V1) , the comparative(1) + clause (S1 + V1)
Ví dụ:
- The sooner we leave, the earlier we will arrive
S1 V1 S2 V2
(=if we leave sooner, we’ll arrive earlier)
- The more expensive the hotel is, the better the service you will get.
- The more I thought about the plan, the less I liked it.
Lưu ý: so sánh càng…càng… có thể đi với danh từ.
The + noun(1) + clause (S1 + V1) , the noun(1) + clause (S1 + V1)
Ví dụ: The more money he spends, the more pleasure he gets.
Lưu ý: Không nhất thiết vế đầu so sánh hơn kết hợp cùng Noun hay tính từ, hay thậm chí là dạng rút gọn, thì vế hai phải song song với vế vế đầu. Ở vế hai, chỉ cần có xuất hiện so sánh hơn bất kể dạng nào.
Ví dụ:
- The older he gets, the less time he can spend with his family.
- When you are travelling, the less luggage you have, the better.
6.3. Lưu ý
Dạng rút gọn thực chất có cùng công thức như dạng đầy đủ (the + noun(1) + clause (S1 + V1) , the noun(1) + clause (S1 + V1)) nhưng do mệnh đề của dạng rút gọn có thể trùng nhau (chủ ngữ là “it” và động từ “be”) do đó không cần thiết phải lặp lại hoặc khi bị lược bỏ đi không ảnh hưởng đến nghĩa, nên đã bị lược bỏ.
Ví dụ:
- A: What time shall we leave?
- B: The sooner we leave, the better it is 🡺 The sooner, the better.
Ngoài tính từ, cả 2 cấu trúc “càng ngày càng…” và “càng…càng…” có thể áp dụng cho trạng từ.
Ví dụ:
- The more students practise writing, the more correctly they can use English grammar
- He lies more and more blatantly.
7. Cấu trúc The more The more trong IELTS Writing
Có thể sử dụng cấu trúc càng…càng… để diễn đạt 2 yếu tố: nguyên nhân và hậu quả cùng một lúc. Đồng thời, khi cấu trúc này được sử dụng, ý của câu cũng được nhấn mạnh hơn.
Ví dụ:
- When there is the threat of global warming today, raising animals makes the situation worse. As farming needs land, the more cows needed to raise for meat, the more forests logged down, for example.
🡺 Ở đây, việc càng nhiều con bò được nuôi để lấy thịt sẽ gây ra việc chặt phá rừng càng nhiều và đồng thời tính nghiêm trọng của việc chăn nuôi lấy thịt cũng được nhấn mạnh.
